Check for updates
Big Picture Money lets you check whether a newer version is available, on your terms. Update checks are always started by you — the app does not nag you on every launch.
Prerequisites
- Big Picture Money is installed and open.
- An internet connection is required to contact the update service.
Check for a newer version
- In the title bar, click the Help icon.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Read the result the app shows you.
What the result means
| Result | What it means |
|---|---|
| You are up to date | You are running the latest version for your edition. |
| An update is available | A newer version for your edition can be downloaded and installed when you are ready. |
| A newer edition is available | A newer yearly edition exists; whether it is included depends on your license. |
| Could not check (offline) | The app could not reach the update service. Your app keeps working normally — try again when you are online. |
Checking for updates never uploads your financial data.
Automatic update checking is delivered together with licensing. Until it is fully enabled, Check for updates shows a short message explaining that update checks are on the way. Big Picture Money never stops working because an update exists.
Expected result
- Choosing Help → Check for updates shows a clear result.
- When you are online and current, the app tells you that you are up to date.
- When you are offline, the app shows a friendly message and keeps working.
- The check never uploads your financial data.
